Transfer News: Juventus are interested in a loan deal for Timo Werner

Juventus have approached Chelsea about signing Timo Werner on loan. This is according to The Guardian, who claim that the Serie A giants are interested in the German striker.

Werner moved to Stamford Bridge in 2020 for a fee worth £47.5 million following his exceptional goal-scoring form in the Bundesliga. However, since then, he has struggled in front of goal and fallen down the pecking order at the London club.

The German international had hinted that he would be open to a move last week. And now it seems that the striker may get his wish.

Chelsea struggled to make chances in their previous pre-season friendly against Arsenal. A lack of a proper number nine was clear and Tuchel would be aware of that. The Blues brought Romelu Lukaku back to the Bridge, but following his disappointing form, he has been loaned back to Inter Milan.

Letting Werner leave this summer would be a gamble for Tuchel. Michy Batshuayi and Armando Broja will be the strikers left in the squad. Broja could play an important role next season as he is likely to stay. The arrival of Raheem Sterling would also allow Tuchel to rotate between different players in the middle up-front.

Apart from Juventus, Newcastle United and former club RB Leipzig are also said to be interested in the 26-year-old striker. The German had a disappointing last season when he could muster up only 4 goals in 21 league appearances.

A loan deal would be beneficial to both the club and player. Werner will be able to get his desired playing time while Chelsea can assess his performance. This would allow the Blues to decide if they want to keep the German further at the club or sell him.

However, that will not be easy as the striker is said to be earning around £275,000 a week. It remains to be seen if any club is willing to pay that amount if they really do want to loan Werner.

From what it seems, Werner isn’t in Tuchel’s plans and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him struggle for consistent starts for the club. Or, if the club fail to sign a new striker, then perhaps he can even use that to prove to Tuchel that he has what it takes to lead the line for Chelsea.
