Chelsea target Gleison Bremer admits UCL desire ahead of a three-way bidding war

The triumvirate of bitter London rivals – Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are set to go head-on to secure the services of Torino defender Gleison Bremer

The 25-year-old Brazilian has been ever-present in the rumour mills of all clubs involved, after an amazing season which saw him being crowned the best defender of the 21/22 Serie A season.

Italian newspaper La Stampa via Milan News (h/t football.london) claims that all three London rivals will start bidding for Bremer in the region of £34m. That amount, although not a small number, seems pale in comparison to the price-tag of other players Chelsea have been after.

Bremer has made an important admission which will surely come as a massive boost to Chelsea, should they be prepared to go all the way for the defender. The Blues are set for a new era under Todd Boehly and could make Bremer the face of their defensive reshape this summer.

A great option for Chelsea to consider

Bremer’s recent admission effectively rules Arsenal out of the picture, leaving just Chelsea and Spurs as the two viable destinations for him.

It makes sense on many levels for Chelsea to seriously pursue Bremer. First, being his natural adaptability to play in back three formations, with Bremer himself admitting that he “prefers a three-man defence”.

Then, of course, there’s the economic side of it. Chelsea’s other defensive targets like Matthijs de Ligt and Jules Kounde are going to cost a fortune, and Bremer’s price-tag in comparison seems like a steal.

However, Tottenham’s interest is not going to make it easy at all. Given that Antonio Conte is known to prefer defenders who are comfortable in a three-man backline, Spurs’ interest in Bremer is likely to be sky-high.
