Transfer News: Real Madrid and Man City are interested in Chelsea star Reece James

According to Metro, Real Madrid and Manchester City are set to enter the race to sign English right-back Reece James with the Chelsea defender yet to receive a new contract proposal from the club.

A product of Chelsea’s famed academy, James has progressed through the ranks over the years before breaking into the Blues’ first team under former boss Frank Lampard. The English defender has since then established himself as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old defender has had yet another influential season for the Blues despite suffering a long-term injury. The talented Englishman has played 39 times for Thomas Tuchel’s team this season scoring six goals and providing 10 assists across all competitions.

Reece James is one of the best right-backs in England.

Despite having three years on his current Blues deal, James is supposedly on a meagre £70,000-a-week wages and has not yet been offered a new contract by the London club. Manchester City and Real Madrid are supposedly looking to take advantage of this situation

Renew him soon?

Along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joao Cancelo, Reece James is arguably the best right-back in the Premier League. Given his age, the Blues star is only bound to get better.

Anyone who has followed Chelsea this season knows how much the Blues have missed the Englishman when he was out with an injury. James is a constant outlet for Thomas Tuchel’s team down the right and in his absence, they tend to struggle.

Reece James should be renewed

A right-back who frequently loves bombing forward and putting in crosses, James is also equally adept defensively and holds his man off really well. One huge thing that makes the Cobham graduate stand out from the rest of the pack is his impeccable eye for a goal.

Chelsea need to realise that losing games cannot be something they can afford to do and would do good in tying James down to a new long-term deal as soon as possible. The Englishman is Chelsea’s future but also their present and he deserves a wage bump.

It remains to be seen as to how the Blues handle this Reece James situation. Renewing him as soon as possible seems like the best solution for all parties involved.
