Transfer News: Chelsea could consider a move for Liverpool star Mohamed Salah

According to the Athletic (Subscription Required), Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah is said to be open to a free transfer to the Reds’ rivals if he does not receive a much-improved offer from the Merseyside club and according to football.london, Chelsea are one of the three possible PL clubs that can sign him.

A former Chelsea flop, Salah joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017 and has since then gone on to cement his status as one of the best players in the world, especially over the last couple of seasons. He is a Reds legend in his own right but finds himself in a contract limbo with the club.

To say that this season has been spectacular for Salah will be an understatement although he tapered off towards the end of the campaign. The 29-year-old winger has played 51 times for Jurgen Klopp’s men scoring 31 goals and providing 16 assists across all competitions.

Having just won the Golden Boot in the Premier League along with Son Heung-Min, Salah is undoubtedly on top of the world. However, with him failing to pen a new deal down with the Reds, he could be moving out on a free transfer at the end of next season.

Reputation at stake?

Right now, Mohamed Salah is a Liverpool legend. The fans adore him and he is considered one of the best players to pull on their famous Red shirt. He has become the face of the club since his move from Roma.

However, it could all turn out very ugly very soon with this contract situation not doing either party any favours. If the 29-year-old does indeed move to one of his rivals, especially on a free, the Liverpool faithful could turn against one of their own.

It is understandable why Chelsea are being linked with a move for the Egyptian forward considering our history with him. But those that follow the Premier League would understand that such a move is tough to happen given how much it would risk tarnishing his reputation.

It isn’t impossible. Players have moved to Chelsea directly from LFC in the past, with Raul Meireles, Yossi Benayoun and Fernando Torres some of the most famous examples. But Salah is arguably Liverpool’s best attacker and LFC are one of the biggest teams in the world now.

Such news, hence, has to be taken with a pinch of salt. After all, it might just be a tactic to force the Reds into giving him what he wants and we have to wait and see how this develops.

But if he did seal a move to the Bridge in the near future, not a lot of our fans should be against it. Not only would it mean us signing one of the world’s very best attackers, but it would also mean getting one over our direct PL rivals.
