According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t Metro], Adrien Rabiot is interested in making a switch to the Premier League this summer and Chelsea would be an option for the player if the Blues make an attempt to get him.
The French midfielder is looking to leave Juventus this summer and the Serie A side will consider offers between £13-17million for the 27-year-old.
Rabiot wants to leave Italy and would like a move to England, preferably a Champions League side. Arsenal had previously tried to sign him, but Chelsea would have an edge if they went for him. However, neither of the sides has made an approach for the midfielder as of yet.
The Blues could be one of the options since the French national played under Thomas Tuchel while at PSG and had a positive relationship with the German.
While no one can deny Rabiot’s talent and skill set, the midfielder hasn’t had the best of times in the last couple of years at his current club. While the versatile midfielder has been involved in 92 games for the Turin-based club since the 2020/21 season, Juventus have severely underperformed in the league and Champions League.
While Chelsea do need to add a solid midfielder to the squad with the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Jorginho not convincing fans, it remains to be seen whether Rabiot is the type of player the Blues will go for.
But with Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour returning from their loan spells at Crystal Palace and Norwich City respectively, the midfield might not need new additions unless the Stamford Bridge club decides to let either of them leave this summer. The potential signing of Rabiot would just hinder the two youngsters’ development.
It’s uncertain whether Tuchel will ask the club to make a move for the 27-year-old. Chelsea fans, on the other hand, will hope that if the club does decide to sign a midfielder it’ll be a proven one who can fit right into the team if Mateo Kovacic or N’Golo Kante were to pick up an injury.
