Chelsea to opt for Raheem Sterling despite the chance to sign Gabriel Jesus

According to Football Daily (h/t Football London), Chelsea are understood to have a stronger interest in Raheem Sterling than in Gabriel Jesus, with the Manchester City pair understood to be leaving this summer.

Both players have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer. Jesus has reportedly been offered to Chelsea already, but the Blues have not taken advantage of the situation as of yet.

Now Arsenal seem to be closing in on the Brazilian for a fee in the region of £50 million, with Chelsea not understood to be pushing that hard.

Raheem Sterling is seemingly Chelsea’s “bigger target”

Thomas Tuchel’s side are apparently more interested in Raheem Sterling, who is viewed as an option to breathe more life into Chelsea’s left flank. Sterling is also capable of playing on the right and as a support striker too, so it remains to be seen which position Tuchel deems fit for him.

The 27-year-old joined Man City in the summer of 2015 and has since gone on to amass 339 appearances for the Citizens, contributing 131 goals and 95 assists

Is Sterling more of a priority for Chelsea than Jesus?

It’s difficult to answer that question with a simple yes or no because both players are supremely talented yet they fulfil different roles. As far as the monetary aspect goes, City’s £50m valuation for Jesus seems a bit much, given that the Brazilian has only 12 months left on his current deal.

The Blues are also reportedly lining up Bayern Munich outcast Robert Lewandowski as their go-to striker for this window. If that is the club’s priority, going for Jesus seems pointless.

Sterling in that case makes so much more sense. He has everything in his arsenal to provide immense value to Chelsea’s misfiring attack and despite being only 27, he has ten years of Premier League experience already. Add to that, his marketability as an established England star.

More Chelsea News:

Adapting to life in West London shouldn’t be a problem for Sterling either, given that he has spent seven of his formative years at the Queens Park Rangers academy. All of this considered, it’s unsurprising that Chelsea view Sterling as the more valuable asset.
