Chelsea could make French superstar their first signing in Todd Boehly era

Chelsea are set to make Ousmane Dembele their first signing in the Todd Bohely era

According to TalkSPORT (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea are ‘closing in’ to secure the transfer move of Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele.

Barcelona and Dembele are still unable to reach an agreement on a new deal and a move to Stamford Bridge could be on the cards as a result of that. The Frenchman’s contract with the Blaugrana expires on June 30, and with the two sides still at odds over money, the English giants have stepped in.

Chelsea are apparently the frontrunners to sign Dembele on a four-year deal. The Blues have been highly attentive to the Frenchman in recent times. However, they weren’t able to make any genuine approach owing to the ongoing ownership situation, which is now halted.

Chelsea handed Ousmane Dembele boost after Todd Bohely completed the takeover.

Todd Boehly just finalised his ownership of Chelsea, and he might be on his way to bringing in Ousmane Dembele as his first signing at Stamford Bridge. Tuchel previously worked with Dembele at Borussia Dortmund, and the Barcelona winger’s contract expires this summer.

A wise move?

The French winger has top-class abilities, but injuries have stymied his growth with the Spanish giants thus far. Dembele, 25, could be a hit in the Premier League next season if Tuchel can bring him back to performing as he did at the Signal Iduna Park.

This season, the Blues’ offence has lacked bite. Romelu Lukaku hasn’t been able to get people’s hearts throbbing. Timo Werner’s goal-scoring issues, paired with Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech’s inability to fulfil their world-class potential so far means that there is a place for the Frenchman in our side.

Ousmane Dembele is highly likely to leave Barcelona in the summer.

Signing Dembele would not be a luxury, but rather an absolute need. The Frenchman possesses incredible speed and dribbling ability, which might help him against elite Premier League defenders. He has a lengthy career ahead of him and at 25, he can still get better.

Given his position on a new Barcelona deal, we may have an opportunity to persuade him to make a transfer this summer. Dembele is not without danger, but acquiring a player of his calibre for free is an opportunity Chelsea should not pass up.
