According to The Mirror, Chelsea are currently monitoring the situation of PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare ahead of the summer transfer window. He has enjoyed another solid campaign, which has resulted in him getting linked with an exit from his current club.
The Blues were eager to sign West Ham United’s Declan Rice, but they have ended their interest due to the ridiculous £150million price tag. As such, they are preparing a shortlist of alternative targets, with Sangare being one of the options being listed at this moment.
Sangare is currently valued at £30million, which is a great price indeed for a man of his talents. That has seen him also being touted as a potential target for Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. That could pave the way for a transfer tussle this summer, so it remains to be seen how this situation will develop in the coming months.
A defensive midfielder in trade, the Ivory Coast international is able enough to play higher up in midfield when needed. He is one of the best in his positions in the Eredivisie and has been on the rise for the past few seasons or so. Sangare is a complete package in the sense that he can complement his ball-playing abilities with his defensive skills to great use.
Standing at 6ft 3in tall, the 24-year-old is also an imposing presence in the air which he can use to his best and dominate both boxes. At the same time, his aggressive playstyle makes him a well-rounded midfielder when combined with his other talents.
The PSV ace has featured in 48 matches this season and has four goals and assists each to his name across all competitions. His tendency to get in on the attacking front further makes him a dynamic presence, which could suit Thomas Tuchel’s flexible tactics.
Hence, it is not a surprise to see why Sangare is being shortlisted, as much of Rice’s qualities can be noticed in his game as well. What’s more, getting a replacement for a much lower fee gives us all the more reason for the west London side to target the African midfielder.
However, it would be best if we keep an eye out for Spurs and Man United if they try to join the transfer race in the future. It remains to be seen if Tuchel’s side would actively pursue Sangare or whether they will look for other alternatives or not this summer.
