While speaking in an interview as quoted by Football.London, Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira has pointed out uncertainties regarding the future of Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher.
The youngster has become the stand out performer for Crystal Palace after scoring eight goals and providing five assists in 38 appearances across all competitions. The Chelsea loanee has made a massive improvement on himself and seems ready to take on big responsibilities in the coming years.
Gallagher is expected to return to Chelsea after his one season spell finishes with Crystal Palace in the summer. However, whether he would stay with the West London club or seek a permanent transfer elsewhere in search of substantial game time is a big question.
When asked about the future of the 22-year-old, Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira suggested that his loan move has served the best purposes for the Eagles and the player. However, he doesn’t know for sure where he could end up in the future if he leaves Chelsea.
“We know that he has to go back to Chelsea. Then, what will happen? We don’t know. But what is important is that he came for a year, and he worked hard and worked well, and he gave something to the team and the football club – it was a win-win.”
Chelsea’s formidable midfield trio that has produced impressive results so far under Thomas Tuchel is getting rusty and older. N’Golo Kanté didn’t have an emphatic spell in this term, whereas Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic were both injured and remained sidelined for a significant period.
On the other hand, Jorginho’s Chelsea future remains up in the air. The Italian has been linked with a summer switch to Juventus and it’s still not certain whether he would be a part of the Blues contingent for next season’s action.
Amid such a situation, the club requires to bring some fresh legs in order to strengthen the depth in the midfield. As there are some positions like central defence and full-back that require priority signings, the Blues might be better off pushing Conor Gallagher to first-team action next term.
It would save the team from spending huge amounts of money on transfers. As the youngster has proved himself on the top level, Chelsea should bet on him. However, they have to guarantee the player more game time and an improved role, or else it would be difficult to keep such a quality individual in the team for a long period.
