Chelsea will have to fork out £45million for Brighton star Marc Cucurella

According to The Sun, Chelsea might have to agree to pay a £45million fee to Brighton and Hove Albion in order to secure the transfer of Marc Cucurella in the summer transfer window.

The Spaniard has had a sensational first season in the Premier League with Brighton. He made several impressive performances across 39 matches in all competitions. Capable of performing at both centre-back and left-back, Cucurella can be an asset for the Blues.

The 23-year-old made the move to Brighton in 2021 from Spanish outfit Getafe for £15.4million. However, it seems Chelsea might have to pay a significant fee if they want to beat off other teams in the fray.

Chelsea are interested in Brighton defender Marc Cucurella ahead of the summer transfer window.

Premier League giants Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in securing the signature of Cucurella. The Spaniard even revealed that it is difficult to ignore transfer approaches from big teams despite feeling loyal to Brighton.

Would Chelsea spend the amount on Cucurella?

Chelsea started the season stupendously with the assistance of top-notch performances from left-back Ben Chilwell. However, due to the Englishman’s injury mid-season, the Blues were left with Marcos Alonso as the only recognised left-back.

The Blues even made several attempts to bring in reinforcements by signing a new player or recalling ones out on loan, but their approaches were met with failures. Amid such a situation Thomas Tuchel even started players like Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah in the full-back position despite knowing that wouldn’t have the same results.

Chelsea’s requirement hasn’t been fulfilled even after Kenedy’s arrival. As Alonso is closing in on an exit, Tuchel might be needing quality reinforcements soon. Hence, the Blues would be wise to secure a player like Cucurella who has performed exceedingly well in the Premier League.

However, the competition involved makes it difficult for our team to have a clear run at the Spaniard. The price seems significantly higher, but considering the shortage of depth, Blues might have to take the bet. Our team could potentially have more financial backing after the Todd Bohely consortium takeover.
