Chelsea urged to sign French midfielder Paul Pogba on a free transfer

Speaking to LordPing as quoted by Football.London, former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has urged Chelsea to sign out-of-contract French midfielder Paul Pogba claiming that the Red Devils midfielder will thrive in a partnership with compatriot N’Golo Kante.

The former Juventus man joined Manchester United in 2016 and has had a very mixed time at Old Trafford. Whilst he is world-class at his best, such performances have been few and far in a Red Devils shirt and there have been calls to move him on.

The 29-year-old has made 27 appearances for the Red Devils this season scoring one goal and providing nine assists across all competitions. The numbers could be misleading though with most of the Frenchman’s assists coming in the first couple of games of the season.

Paul Pogba is extremely inconsistent

With the player confirmed to leave Old Trafford on a free this summer with his contract expiring, many clubs around Europe could be interested in signing Pogba. Saha has urged the Blues to make a move though, claiming that he would form a great partnership with Kante.

“Chelsea is the obvious match for Pogba because he loves to play with N’Golo Kante. We always try to compare what he does with France and United and the ability of Kante makes Pogba play to another dimension and that’s the truth.”

Steer clear?

Whilst Saha might be right in his claim that Kante manages to get the best out of Paul Pogba, that does not necessarily mean that we must consider the Frenchman as a signing.

As we have seen across the years, Pogba is extremely inconsistent. Whilst there is no doubting his abilities as a footballer, we do not want to sign a player whose attitude over the years has hardly inspired confidence. More so, he will be surplus to requirements.

Although Kante and Jorginho’s contracts expire next summer and both of them are yet to pen down new deals, it is expected that at least one if not both players would continue at Stamford Bridge. In Mateo Kovacic, we already have a world-class midfielder in the ranks.

Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour are two of the best midfielder prospects in the world and both players undoubtedly have a huge future with us. They are likely to return from their loan spells and become huge parts of the first team next season under Thomas Tuchel.

Although Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley are mostly fringe players and might not have a future here, we still have them in our ranks and our always options that we can call upon when required. With so many options in our own roster, it makes absolutely no sense to sign Paul Pogba considering the Frenchman won’t come cheap either.

Paul pogba is a signing we must steer clear off, even on a free. It remains to be seen what happens though in the transfer window.
