Chelsea star Jorginho demands €7 million-a-year in salary from Juventus

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, via Football Italia (h/t Football London), Chelsea midfielder Jorginho is demanding a €7 million-a-year salary to move to Juventus from Stamford Bridge in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Jorginho had an exceptional last season, winning the UEFA Champions League with the Blues and lifting the Euros with Italy. However, his performances have arguably been on the decline this season and he is no longer an indispensable piece of the Chelsea puzzle.

Regardless of that, he continues to make regular appearances for the club and is among our most experienced players. His ability to control the game from midfield, distribute with calmness and make decisive passes is an ability that can bear fruit if used right.

Italian giants Juventus have been interested in the Chelsea midfielder and have now decided to make moves with regard to a future move. Considering Jorginho’s current transfer stance, the Old Lady are eyeing completing a transfer for him as a priority for the club.

The 30-year-old is said to have requested a €7 million (£5.8million)-a-year salary in Turin, the same amount as striker Dusan Vlahovic. A return to his home country could be on the cards for the midfielder who has one year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge after this season.

Back to where it started?

Having started off his career in Italy, Jorginho has played his fair share of Serie A football and there is no doubt that a return to his homeland will be an exciting prospect for the 30-year-old.

Even though letting a quality player like Jorginho leave is a significant loss for our club, holding a player against his will might not serve us well in the long run. Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour are two young midfielders out on loan who can take that space, but it remains to be seen if Tuchel trusts them to make them regular starters already.

With Gilmour especially, the Scottish sensation is capable of playing the ‘Jorginho role’ at Chelsea and if given the chance, he might just turn out to be the perfect replacement for the Italian.

Jorginho is someone who could offer Chelsea a lot but he is not irreplicable. Selling him gives the Blues an opportunity to push younger talents to the fore or bring in better alternatives.

It remains to be seen what happens with the Italian international. If he stays, Chelsea will be happy. If he ends up leaving, it will not be the end of the world.
