La Liga champions Atletico Madrid keeping tabs on Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech

According to Fichajes (h/t Football London), Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are considering making a move for Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech in the 2022 summer transfer window.

Ziyech joined Chelsea from Ajax Amsterdam in 2020. The Moroccan winger struggled with injuries in his first season but has slowly settled into Thomas Tuchel’s team, showcasing his abilities at Stamford Bridge. The 29-year-old has scored eight goals and five assists in 32 games across all competitions this season including a stunning goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

The Moroccan has a contract with the Blues until 2025 and with the way he is playing, Tuchel and the Blues have more reasons to keep him than part ways. Whether that will deter Atletico from making a move remains to be seen.

While at his best, Ziyech is a world-class player. The former Ajax man set the stage alight at Amsterdam and is slowly yet surely replicating the feat at Stamford Bridge. Just as he is settling into the team, the Blues will not want to lose him.

Ziyech is just beginning to shine at Stamford Bridge.

A tempting switch?

Atletico Madrid have developed into a top team under Diego Simeone, even winning the La Liga last season. They have a lot of attacking options namely, Yannick Carrasco, Angel Correa, Joao Felix, Thomas Lemar and even Antonie Griezmann but the Moroccan offers something very different.

Ziyech with his flair and an astounding eye for goal can influence games for the Colchoneros and he would perfectly fit into Simeone’s hard-working system. The forward is yet to play in La Liga and a switch to the Wanda Metropolitano might suit his strengths.

Simeone to go all out for Ziyech?

From Chelsea’s perspective, Ziyech is a player who can offer a lot to the team despite the immense competition in the forward area. As we have seen in the past few months, he is capable of producing the unthinkable on a regular basis.

The story of Ziyech at Chelsea is just starting. It remains to be seen if it ends as quickly as it has started.
