Transfer News: Manchester United enter race for Chelsea target Tino Livramento

According to Italian media outlet Calciomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have registered their interest to sign Chelsea transfer target Tino Livramento in the future. He has quickly become a regular for Southampton, having just joined them at the start of this season.

Livramento has earned lots of plaudits for his performances this season which has attracted attention from a host of major clubs. Man United are also keeping tabs on the situation to see if they prise him away from the competitors.

The Blues sold the 19-year-old to the Saints last summer, but he has already been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge. However, they have included a buy-back option in his agreement which will become active in 2023. They can finalise a transfer for him for £50million, having sold him initially for just £5million.

A quick return?

The decision to sell the Englishman in the first place would have baffled many supporters since he was one of our highly-rated stars in the academy. Moreover, the lack of natural options in the right wing-back slot further emphasised how the West London side may have made a mistake in parting ways with the starlet.

The Saints star has made 23 appearances this season and has scored once while assisting twice across all competitions. One would certainly wonder how he would have fared for us this season considering Reece James was out for around two months at the start of this year.

The fullback’s performances have not gone under the radar as multiple heavyweights are interested in signing him. He may be expensive for us to re-sign, but it isn’t a bad idea to get him back. After all, our options in the right-wingback slot are pretty thin, with Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta our only natural choices.

James and Azpilicueta have been out with injuries that really hampered us throughout this season. Moreover, the skipper could also leave on a free transfer next summer. That would worsen our current situation, making us wonder why we sold Livramento in the first place.

We cannot get Livramento back this coming summer since the buy-back clause only activates in 2023. As such, it remains to be seen how the board would try to handle the situation as we near the end of this campaign. Let’s hope that we can facilitate a reunion for the Southampton star and pip our competition in the process as well.
