Transfer News: Chelsea’ pushing’ for the signature of Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele

According to L’Equipe via @Sport_Witness as relayed by Simon Phillips (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are the only team currently showing aggression in the race for Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele.

Ousmane Dembele mainly failed to reach the heights in the recent seasons due to recurring injury concerns. The Barcelona star has only managed to put up ten appearances in this campaign and has often failed to consistently show off his excellent ability on and off the ball.

Transfer News: Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele is a subject of transfer interest from Chelsea.

The Barcelona board are still struggling to cope with financial backlogs. The Catalan doesn’t possess the freedom to offer lucrative wages and is believed that negotiation between Dembele and the Blaugrana board has reached a dead end. Progress is yet to be made on the issue and a compromise appears to be out of the question so far.

Amid such a situation, a handful of Premier League teams are assessing their chance to lure Dembele. But, it’s Marina Granovskaia’s board that is ‘pushing’ for the move.

Chelsea have some concerns in the attacking lineup. Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic have failed to provide any consistent spell of form and have a poor conversion rate this campaign. Even though Romelu Lukaku has bagged a decent number of goals, he is still far from replicating his Inter Milan form.

Barcelona have failed to bind Dembele to a renewal deal.

Dembele’s addition could be a massive boost to the Chelsea squad. The world cup winning striker has shown promising performances against English teams in the Champions League. Along with breathtaking pace, the 24-year-old forward’s sleek movements gives him an advantage when attacking the opposition defences.

Chelsea have experienced in recent weeks how injury issues can impact the overall performance of the team. There is no guarantee that the French forward would remain fit after moving to the Premier League. In fact, the English top division might require higher physical demands than the Spanish league. Therefore, would Thomas Tuchel be interested in signing a player that mostly spent time on the bench?
