In the end, normal service resumed at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea put Tottenham Hotspur to the sword to move to within one point of Liverpool in the Premier League standings.
It was yet another painful trip to Stamford Bridge for Antonio Conte as he suffered a third loss in three games to Chelsea this January. Tuchel certainly appears to have Spurs’ number and it showed once again as he blunted the visitors’ attack on the night.
Tottenham looked to have scored first but Harry Kane’s strike was chalked off for a foul on Thiago Silva. Chelsea for their part can consider themselves fortuitous as the Brazilian made a meal of the coming together.
There was nothing fortuitous in Hakim Ziyech‘s wonder strike that nestled in the top corner and gave the home side the lead on the night. The Moroccan almost doubled his tally within the minute but was denied by an excellent save by Hugo Lloris.
Chelsea turned in the screw and got their two-goal cushion when Thiago Silva scored from a freekick in the 55th minute. The Blues then shut off all avenues for an admittedly Tottenham squad that appeared to lack both imagination and ingenuity.
The win takes the Blues to within a point of Liverpool in the second spot. The Reds however have two games in hand and could pull away should they secure maximum points from them. But for now, we can celebrate our first win at the Bridge in the league since December.
For now, we look at how the Chelsea fans reacted to the win on Twitter.
