Chelsea’s first January transfer announced as Derby County youngster Dylan Williams confirms Blues switch

As per football.London, Chelsea have finally made a move in the January transfer window after signing Dylan Williams from Derby County. The teenager seems to have impressed the Chelsea hierarchy with his talents, convincing them to make a move for the Championship player.

Williams is an exciting young talent and is known to be versatile and explosive in attack, despite being a left-back. Despite playing for the Rams’ academy, he was called up to the first team and handed senior appearances after a Covid outbreak at the club forced Derby County to play their youngsters in an FA Cup tie.

Rams released a statement confirming the youngster’s switch to the capital and wishing the player every success at Chelsea.

Chelsea have finally made a move in the January transfer window after signing Dylan Williams from Derby County.

Williams was the youngest player to start in Derby County’s FA Cup Third Round tie at Chorley, at the age of 16. The game, which took place just over a year ago, also marked his professional debut in football. The player has then made leaps and bounds in his progress with the Rams, making the step up to the first-team, and has racked up eight appearances in all competitions.

Derby County manager Wayne Rooney had earlier hinted at a deal being completed for Williams, saying that it was his decision to let go of the player, saying he could not deny a youngster the opportunity of going to play in the Premier League.

The player himself has taken to social media to announce the move, expressing his joy and thanking his former employers for the time he spent with the Championship club. Williams is expected to slot into the youth ranks at Cobham, with the young defender thought to be one for the future.

Although not the transfer news that Blues fans would have been expecting this month, we seem to have taken a step towards securing our future by signing young Williams. Although he is not likely to be part of Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel‘s side immediately, the teenager could soon be knocking at the doors of the senior squad, expecting a chance to play.

The youngster will need to step up his level and raise his game from what he is used to. The jump from the Championship to the Premier League does not come easy for any player, let alone a teenager.

Tuchel has been searching for a left-back to cover for senior star Ben Chilwell, after the Englishman was ruled out of the season with an injury. It would be a stretch to say that Williams has been signed to provide cover for Chilwell. It remains to be seen if Tuchel will put his faith in Williams should the situation demand it.

An asset for the future, Williams is sure to be keen on catching Tuchel’s eye and contributing to our success. The Blues have a plethora of hungry young players coming through the ranks and hopefully, Williams too will join that list.
