Father of Andreas Christensen speaks out amid renewal perplexity with Chelsea

According to Sport Witness (h/t Football.London), the father of Andreas Christensen has responded to the speculations surrounding his son’s Chelsea renewal deal.

Andreas Christensen has been consistent and reliable with his performances. Chelsea couldn’t have asked for a more viable option to partner Antonio Rüdiger and Thiago Silva. However, the Danish international’s off-field conduct is becoming a real threat to the Blues’ long-term ambitions.

The 25-year-old player’s current deal with the West Londoners runs out this summer. However, Marina Granovskaia’s board hasn’t been able to agree on a renewal deal until now. In such a situation, the Danish defender would be able to talk with foreign teams from January.

Christensen’s father, who is also his agent, was asked to comment on the situation by Denmark’s BT. However, Sten Christensen refused to give any insights on the ongoing talks.

“I will not comment on that at this time.”

Where does Andreas Christensen’s future lie?

It could be a massive hint that the Denmark international player’s future remains uncertain. As Sten hasn’t ruled out the possibility for a move away from Stamford Bridge, it could be believed that they are not fully committing to a Chelsea future.

Christensen has been vital for Thomas Tuchel’s defence. This season the Blues have only conceded six goals in the Premier League, which is a significant achievement for the backline. Time and again, we have seen the West London full-backs run forward and join the attack. It is fair to say that they can successfully do that by having such a reliable backline.

The Danish player is entering his peak years and could become more solid in the coming years. Thus, it would be a wrong time to lose such a quality player. The Blues board should find an agreeable contract as soon as possible because elite teams would be lurking to convince the defender once he would become eligible to talk with foreign teams.
