Real Madrid turn down an offer from Chelsea for defender Eder Militao

According to El Nacional (Football.london), Spanish giants Real Madrid turned down an offer from Chelsea to keep hold of their lead defender Eder Militao.

Eder Militao has played an anchoring role to cover up for the losses of Real Madrid’s star defensive duo Sergio Ramos and Raphaël Varane. The Brazilian player has become a key player under Carlo Ancelotti.

Even though veteran defender David Alaba came as a reinforcement last summer from Bayern Munich, Los Blancos would have faced massive trouble if Militao hadn’t stepped up to the occasion.

This season the Madrid team only lost two games across all competition when the Brazilian featured in their team.

Such a display of reliability and consistency over the past seasons has earned recognition from Chelsea. The English club targeted the player for a viable backup option in case their own dilemma comes to light.

The Blues board now face a significant challenge with the contract situation of two of their primary defensive players. Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are serving their final contract years with the West London team. The renewal talks for their contract ahs reached dead ends on a few occasions in recent times.

It is believed that Thomas Tuchel’s team offered €40million (£34million) to the Spanish giant for the defender. But it seems Florentino Perez’s future plans involve the 23-year-old player. La Casa Blanca rejected the offer to keep the player in Santiago Bernabeu.

The Madrid team is optimistic about the player and would want to stop the speculations around his future. President Perez is ‘hoping’ to offer a new contract to the Brazilians to prevent other clubs from approaching him.

Chelsea would need to find some viable backup options soon if their defensive duo leaves for free. Planning for the future is important especially under a manager that utilizes a three-men-at-back system.
