Chelsea vs Manchester United Team News: A look at the players set to miss this weekend’s titanic Premier League clash

According to the official Manchester United website, the early team news shows Chelsea and the Red Devils missing some key players as they clash in Premier League. They will face each other at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, 28th November.

The Blues come into this game as league leaders following a 4-0 beatdown of Juventus in the UEFA Champions League earlier this week. Man United will themselves have a confidence boost after qualifying for the knockout stages after getting the better of Villarreal by a 2-0 scoreline.

Thomas Tuchel’s side has shown little to no signs of weakness in their game and would be a force to reckon with for the Red Devils. United, however, had some nervy moments in the last match and were far from their best. As for the upcoming game, both sides will miss some key players due to injuries or suspension.

Chelsea to host Manchester United on Sunday.

Ben Chilwell and N’Golo Kante picked up injuries against Juve and are on the sidelines for an extended period. Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz could also be out of contention dealing, a further blow to the hosts.

However, Timo Werner made his return in the game against the Bianconeri and even scored a goal. Romelu Lukaku could also feature in the game on Sunday as he was on the bench for the CL fixture. The squad depth would play a part as the table-toppers still have players to back up their injury concerns.

Interim manager Michael Carrick would be leading the visitors after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got sacked from the managerial role. They will be without Harry Maguire, who got sent off after picking up his second yellow card in their defeat to Watford. Mason Greenwood could also be out after he had tested positive for Covid-19.

Paul Pogba is out due to the injury he picked up during the international break whereas, Edinson Cavani is in a race against time to be available for selection. Raphael Varane is yet to recover from the thigh injury, which means he would not be an option against the league leaders.

Tuchel’s side are clear favourites coming into this match with expectations to have a strong showing. Even with the injury issues, three points would be the desired outcome. Even their recent CL win is questionable because there were multiple moments where individual brilliance saved them, rather than a team effort.

With United almost certain to play without their first-choice centre-back duo, Chelsea should make use of the home advantage and put the visitors to the sword from minute 1. We have ourselves been without some of our key first-team players in recent weeks, but Tuchel has shown that our squad depth is good enough to get us wins during such times.

Carrick will also be in the dugout for the first time as Man United’s interim manager in the Premier League. Keeping these factors in mind, it is fair if our fans think we are the favourites going into this game and for us to expect some goals after both of our last PL encounters against United ending in goalless draws.
