Thomas Tuchel confirms Mason Mount will be involved for Chelsea against Southampton

According to Football.london, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that star midfielder Mason Mount will be in the squad for their Premier League clash against Southampton.

The English international has not played for the Blues since their hard-fought win over Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup. His absence has however been felt with Chelsea losing in consecutive games against Manchester City and Juventus.

While the twin setbacks do not derail our season, it shows just what Mount brings to the table. Thankfully he appears to be closing in on full fitness.

According to the report, Tuchel confirmed that Mount’s injury was not serious. While he will be in the squad against Southampton, it remains to be seen if he will be involved from the start.

“Mason is in the squad, Mason is back. It was not a long injury, it was a minor injury.”

Tuchel also went on to add that the 22-year-old midfielder was happy at being named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming international games. Mount is raring to go and will give his best to the Three Lions side.

“He’s happy to be and will give everything to do his best for the England squad.”

Mount has also been named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

While Tuchel does not appear to be surprised by Mount’s inclusion for the England squad, the same cannot be said of Reece James.

The German’s comments would indicate that the full-back is not close to taking the field and any inclusion for England is not without its risks. The Blues boss hopes the selection is just one big misunderstanding and that the player will not need to travel.

“My last information is he will not go, it can only be a misunderstanding.”

Mount’s return is a massive boost for Tuchel. The German lacks another player whose mobility can help support Lukaku and the other strikers upfront. With the Englishman now back, the Blues will be keen to hold their two-game losing streak.
