Thomas Tuchel claims “it is very likely” for changes to be made in the Chelsea lineup against Southampton

According to Evening Standard, Thomas Tuchel has admitted that changes will be made in the team as they gear up to face Southampton in the Carabao Cup. Chelsea are set to face the Saints today at Stamford Bridge in the cup competition.

The Blues have been high flying this season as they stand up top of the Premier League, leading second place holders Liverpool by a point. They did have a hiccup in the Champions League against Juventus as they are in second place in the competition.

However, the English club will be expected to compete in both these competitions and Tuchel would look to rotate ahead of today’s match. It would give much-needed rest to key players while also keeping the rest of the squad match sharp.

“Everybody can put their heads together and make decisions because we have to admit we have the late game on Wednesday and the early game on Saturday and now another one on Tuesday. So it is very likely we have some changes.”

The Champions League holders have released their matchday squad for tonight’s game at West London. They will be missing Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic through injuries.

Goalkeepers: Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Marcus Bettinelli

Defenders: Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Trevoh Chalobah, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, Marcos Alonso, Reece James, Cesar Azpilicueta

Attackers: Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz, Callum Hudson-Odoi

While the Carabao Cup is not as important as the other major titles, this would be a great opportunity for the rest of the squad to show their quality. It would also help the German boss to keep the squad fresh and match ready in case they are affected by injuries.
