According to Daily Mail, Chelsea starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi could end up switching allegiances from England to Ghana after becoming ‘disillusioned’ with the FA. The winger recently refused a call up to the England U-21’s after repeated snubs for the senior side and could now decide to play for Ghana.
It has somewhat not gone according to the script for Hudson-Odoi at Chelsea. Once seen as a budding teenager with blistering talent, the winger has failed to build on those initial years and finds himself on the periphery of the first-team set-up. His inconsistencies and lack of regular game time have spilt onto his international career.
Hudson-Odoi last made an appearance for England’s senior side close to three years ago. Since then, he has waddled around the U-21’s set up and the FA have repeatedly ignored him from the senior side. He also missed out on the Euros squad that went all the way to the final. Recently, he refused to join the England U-21’s for some qualifiers and that could be the final nail in the coffin.
His parents are from Ghana, meaning that he is eligible to represent them internationally. He is now seriously considering switching to play for Ghana as he has only played three games for England but not in any major tournament and those were before he was 21. Therefore, the earliest he can join the African giants is in November.
With Ghana, the 20-year-old Hudson-Odoi has a realistic chance of featuring on a more regular basis. That could lead to him getting a place in the squad for the World Cup next year. The same cannot be said if he chooses to remain with England as there are one too many players emerging and in his way.
