Speaking to iNews (h/t Football.london), Matt Spiro has revealed the influence of Chelsea legend Claude Makelele on Trevoh Chalobah. The author explained how the academy graduate learnt new skills from the former Chelsea man to boost his game.
There’s a very good chance that Trevoh Chalobah can be the find of the season for Chelsea. It has been an impressive August for the academy ace after he was handed his debut for the senior side and in the Premier League as well. He went on to score his first goal as well in the season opener against Crystal Palace.
In a side dominated by star names, Chalobah has managed to carve out just a bit of his own space there. Since the Palace game, he has played two full games for the side and impressed well. Chalobah has often been seen looking to move forward, intercept opposition moves and start moves of his own for Chelsea.
It is apparently a trait he has picked up from the legendary Claude Makelele, who is now the technical mentor at the club. Author Matt Spiro went on to reveal the same while talking about Chalobah’s progress:
“What was impressive was his ability to stride forward either from that starting position in defence or from midfield. He could break through the lines and start counter-attacks. It was something he worked on with [Chelsea’s technical mentor] Claude Makelele.”
The future is indeed bright for Chalobah who is starting to appear in more games for the side. He has shown rapid improvement and at just 22 years of age, he still has a lot to learn. It will be interesting to see if Chalobah can displace one of the established names in defence and make it his own.
