According to transfer news from Fabrizio Romano, Tiemoue Bakayoko will complete his move to AC Milan soon. The Chelsea outcast will be returning to Milan on loan for two seasons after Chelsea extended his deal till 2024. Medicals will be held this week and AC Milan will have the option to sign him for €15m.
It has been difficult right from the onset for Bakayoko at Chelsea. He was seen as a talented and explosive midfielder for Monaco but some poor showings meant that he was never the same at Chelsea. Even in the few games he got under Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri, he didn’t make a very solid impression.
The 27-year-old was allowed to leave on consecutive loan spells to Milan, Monaco and most recently, Napoli. Most of them produced mixed results but he never looked close to the earlier form of his. Even after returning to Chelsea, there was no spot for him as the likes of Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic were the first choices.
Now, Bakayoko could be leaving Chelsea for good. He is very close to heading off to Milan on a two-year loan deal. Chelsea extended his deal till 2024 before sending him away. The medicals and other things are supposed to be completed this week. Milan will also have the option to sign him permanently for €15m.
Chelsea fans will be hoping that this Bakayoko chapter can be closed sooner rather than later. He was a signing that tanked spectacularly and never looked worth the outlay. With the option to buy, Chelsea will be hoping Milan take up the same and get him off their hands.
