According to transfer news from Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Express), Chelsea are planning to offer three full-backs to Inter Milan for Romelu Lukaku. The Blues are keen to get their former star back at the club and are trying to reduce the price for him by offering their players.
Chelsea know they let Romelu Lukaku go too early and then he went on to blossom into one of the best strikers in Europe. His stints at Everton, Manchester United and Inter Milan proved that he can lead the line for any side with ease. Last season, he pushed Inter Milan all the way to a Serie A title.
Given Chelsea’s goalscoring woes, it was no surprise to see them returning for Lukaku, seven years after selling him. However, Chelsea are exploring the possibility of a potential swap deal that will involve them offering Marcos Alonso, Davide Zappacosta and Emerson (h/t Express). Although Chelsea have already had a player plus cash deal involving Alonso rejected.
All three full-backs are fringe players for Chelsea currently. Alonso is probably the only name that somewhat featured for the side over last season. Emerson was mostly warming the benches while Zappacosta has spent the last few seasons out on loan. However, Inter Milan are actually keen on a cash-only deal for Lukaku.
Chelsea need Lukaku and that is clear. They are trying whatever method they can to get him. It will not likely be easy given Inter’s stance. Offering so many fringe players is a good way to reduce the asking price but it is unclear whether the Italian champions will really accept any such deal.
