According to the Daily Mail, Olivier Giroud has urged former Chelsea mate Hakim Ziyech to join him at AC Milan. The French veteran recently joined Milan and wants the playmaker to link up with him. He was all praise for his former teammate and wants to play alongside him again.
After three and a half seasons with Chelsea, Olivier Giroud bowed out and made the move to AC Milan. The Serie A giants landed him for a cut-price deal of £855,000 after the French forward had extended his contract with Chelsea. His previous deal was set to end this summer leaving him to be a free agent.
Giroud has already nicked his first goal for his new club as AC Milan took on Nice in a friendly. However, Giroud has now spoken about his former Chelsea teammate Hakim Ziyech. He was full praise for the struggling Blues’ midfielder and wanted to link up with him again.
“Ziyech is a great player. We have had a great connection even though we have played few games together. He has a top left foot, has experience and he is very good technically. It would be nice to play with him again.”
It has been a difficult debut season for Ziyech. Thomas Tuchel’s arrival somewhat sidelined him as he could not find a place in the new setup. Injuries did little to help as the Moroccan ended his debut Premier League season with just 23 appearances, most of which came from the bench. He managed a return of two goals and three assists.
Despite the struggles, Ziyech remains a quality player as Giroud said. He just needs some time and confidence to get back to his best. Also, it’s highly unlikely that Chelsea let go of Ziyech after just one season. Perhaps our former striker might have to wait for a while longer to link up with Ziyech.
