According to transfer news from Mirror, Chelsea have received a boost in their chase for Erling Haaland. The Borussia Dortmund striker would be pleased to move to Chelsea after it came to the fore that they are planning a mammoth £150m bid.
The Blues have shown tremendous interest in the player along with the rest of the elite European clubs such as Manchester United and Real Madrid. That means that they will have to stump up heavy cash to land him. The Norwegian is arguably the hottest prospect in the world right now and has impressed heavily at Borussia Dortmund. He produced a whopping tally of 41 goals and 12 assists in all competitions this past season.
He does have a low release clause that gets activated in the summer of 2022. But Chelsea want a deal this year itself, as they have a goal-scoring problem on their hands. Timo Werner has struggled to find goals. Tammy Abraham could leave and Giroud is close to leaving.
Chelsea were said to preparing a record £150m bid for the striker this season itself. That is said to work in their favour as other clubs such as Real Madrid and United are waiting till next season for the low release clause to come into effect. It’s Chelsea’s willingness to complete a deal this season that’s pleased Haaland. (h/t Mirror)
It’s not hard to guess why Chelsea were bending over backwards to sign the talented goalscorer. It’s not the best decision to go into the season with Werner as the only striker, given the situations with Giroud and Abraham. Haaland has shown that he can do it at such a young age. It could well be worth it for Chelsea if they can get their man.
