According to transfer news from Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t football.london), Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso is pushing for an exit from the club this summer amidst Serie A interest.
Alonso arrived at Chelsea in 2016 from Italian club Fiorentina in a deal worth €23m and has enjoyed a fairly successful stint at the Bridge even though he has somewhat fallen out of favour over the past year or so.
Indeed, the Spaniard was frozen out by ex-manager Frank Lampard and even though Thomas Tuchel brought him back into the fold, Alonso remained firmly behind Ben Chilwell in the pecking order at left wing-back. Heading into the new season, things are unlikely to change for the 30-year-old, due to which he is seemingly keen on an exit from the club.
And, there seems to be interest in Alonso, mostly from Italy, where reigning Serie A champions Inter Milan are said to be keen on signing the left-back. AS Roma were also looking to sign the Spaniard but have since shifted their attention towards Matias Vina, leaving Inter as the only viable suitors for the Spaniard.
As per the report, Chelsea are demanding €20m for Alonso – something that the cash-strapped Nerazzurri cannot afford to pay at the moment. Instead, they are hoping to sign the 30-year-old on loan with an option to buy next summer.
With the Blues not relenting, it is now being claimed that the defender has taken matters into his own hands and is pushing Marina Granoviskaia to lower the demands so that he can secure a transfer to Inter.
Alonso’s fellow full-back, Emerson Palmieri, is also being linked with a return to Italy this summer. If both of them end up leaving, Chelsea would be in a difficult position as there will be no cover for Chilwell. So, an intriguing summer awaits the Blues with regards to their decisions in the left-back position.
