According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United and Crystal Palace hope to learn the stance that Chelsea takes regarding the future of Conor Gallagher in the coming week.
Gallagher, a product of the Chelsea youth academy, has made rapid strides over the past couple of years while away on loan. The 21-year-old was also able to add some vital Premier League experience under his belt when he spent the 2020/21 term with West Bromwich Albion on a temporary basis.
While the Baggies may have ended up getting relegated, Gallagher was one of the few positives during the season as the young midfielder showed he is ready for this level. Now back at Chelsea, the youngster continues to attract serious interest from several Premier League clubs heading into the new season.
Leeds United and Crystal Palace are said to be at the forefront of interest in Gallagher, along with Newcastle United as per the report. The clubs are hoping to sign the youngster in the current transfer window and are hoping to learn Chelsea’s decision on his future in the coming days.
Chelsea, for their part, see Gallagher as an integral part of the club’s future plans. So, a permanent transfer has been ruled out completely. As to whether a loan deal could be arranged, a decision is yet to be taken, although there is a feeling that the Blues could send the midfielder out for him to add more top-flight experience. Considering that Thomas Tuchel has enough options at his disposal in midfield, Gallagher might not see a lot of minutes by staying put at the Bridge. Another year on loan before he is integrated into the first-team setup would make sense for everyone involved.
