According to news from reliable journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur eyeing a move for Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma in case they fail in their bid to sign Cristian Romero.
Chelsea signed Zouma from French club Saint Etienne in 2014. The Frenchman hasn’t quite been able to nail down himself as a regular at the club. A regular early in his stint at the club under Jose Mourinho, the centre-back slipped down the pecking order and had loan spells at Stoke City and Everton, before making his way back into the plans in 2019 under Frank Lampard.
However, having started well under the Englishman, he once again lost his place in the side and saw game-time get harder to come by once Thomas Tuchel took over the reins earlier this year. Indeed, the German has favoured the trio of Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger as his first-choice backline with Andreas Christensen next in the order of preference.
With Chelsea now looking to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla as well (h/t Fabrizio Romano), Zouma could fall further down the pecking order at the Bridge in case a move goes through.
And, it seems like Tottenham are keeping a close watch on the situation as they look to bolster their defensive ranks. Romano insists that the Lilywhites are prioritising a move for Atalanta’s Cristian Romero. But in case a move fails to materialise, Zouma, valued at €25m, has been identified as one of the Plan B options by the north Londoners.
Apart from Zouma, Spurs would also look at Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic and Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu, as per Romano.
With Chelsea having an abundance of options in defence and seemingly likely to add another centre-half, losing Zouma would not come as a major blow.
