Chelsea youngster, Callum Hudson-Odoi, wants to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place in the starting XI despite links with Bayern Munich, according to a report by The Sun (h/t Metro).
The young English winger has been linked with Bayern repeatedly, including in a swap deal that would see the Englishman going to the Allianz Arena and Kingsley Coman heading the other way. (h/t Metro)
But the report clarifies that the 20-year-old has no interest in leaving his boyhood club and wants to stay and fight for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s team. He did not get a lot of starts under the German last season.
Since Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard, Hudson-Odoi gradually lost his place in the Chelsea XI. He did not start in any of their last 7 league games of the previous season, showing Tuchel’s idea of the winger’s role in his starting line-up.
Hudson-Odoi could have to be moulded in order to fit into Tuchel’s system which sees two wing-backs instead of traditional wingers. Playing as a winger under Lampard, Hudson-Odoi’s roles varied under Tuchel which at times saw him play as a wing-back on the right-hand side.
But at 20, he would know that there is still a lot of time ahead of him. Born in London and having spent his entire career on Chelsea’s books, there is no doubt that the Blues fans would want him to stay.
He is younger than Coman and essentially plays the same role; that of a wide-attacker. It remains to be seen where Hudson-Odoi actually ends up next season, but if he stays at Chelsea, which now looks likely, not many fans will have complaints about that.
