According to transfer news from Mirror, Chelsea could sell four players in a bid to raise cash. While those four players, namely Emerson Palmieri, Marcos Alonso, Andreas Christensen and Davide Zappaosta were initially thought to be used as makeweights for the Achraf Hakimi deal, they could be sold anyway.
Chelsea are trying their best to land Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan. He is seen as the best fit for Thomas Tuchel’s new back-three formation. Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta have done well in that position but the Moroccan would add another dimension to the attacking play from the right.
As Chelsea keep at the deal for Hakimi, they were thinking about offering some of their own players in a bid to reduce the asking price. However, they could sell them regardless of the deal for the Inter Milan star.
Despite featuring a number of times for Tuchel, Christensen and Alonso find themselves surplus to requirements at the club. On the other side is Emerson and Zappacosta have slipped to the fringes and are no close to changing that.
The summer will likely see a host of players leave the club. However, Chelsea will need to think carefully about who they don’t need and who they should keep for squad depth. Selling off too many players in one go might result in a thinner squad at a time when clubs are playing over 50 games a season.
