France president Emmanuel Macron backs Chelsea star N’Golo Kante for Ballon d’Or

According to ESPN, French president Emmanuel Macron has backed Chelsea star N’Golo Kante to win the Ballon d’Or. The president is among the latest high-profile person to voice their support for the diminutive midfielder to win the prestigious award.

The 30-year-old Frenchman has enjoyed a stellar 2020/21 campaign. Be it under Frank Lampard or his successor Thomas Tuchel, Kante has been a key member of the Chelsea side. He has put in some stellar displays, especially, towards the end of the season, playing an integral role in the Blues’ success.

Indeed, Kante put in Man of the Match displays in the Champions League semi-finals against Real Madrid, in both legs. He then absolutely dominated the Manchester City midfield in the finals of the main event in Porto, with another MOTM performance.

As Kante prepare to do it all over again, this time for France in the Euros, president Emmanuel Macron spoke in support of Kante winning the Ballon d’Or.

EMMANUEL MACRON – 13 N GOLO KANTE (FRA) – 02 BENJAMIN PAVARD (FRA) – JOIE FOOTBALL : France vs Croatie – Coupe du Monde 2018 – Finale – 15/07/2018.

“N’Golo Kante is a great player, like Kylian Mbappe and he is an example. He is an example for the youth of the country. When we see again the season Kante has had with his club, and I hope the Ballon d’Or too and I’m sure what he will do in this Euros.

“Him and Kylian are good people too, with values of effort and togetherness. They are loyal to the clubs where they come from. And I think it is very important for the country because sport is always bigger than just sport.”

The French president interacted with the French squad ahead of their EURO 2020 campaign much like he did in 2018. Before Macron, Kante’s compatriot Paul Pogba also spoke about Kante winning the award. A strong showing with France in the upcoming Euros would well and truly put Kante as the favourite for the Ballon d’Or.
