According to transfer news from Metro, Olivier Giroud could be heading for an exit from Chelsea as he has agreed to join AC Milan. The French World Cup winner is said to have agreed on a two-year deal worth £3m.
The 34-year-old Giroud has been with Chelsea since January 2018 when he sealed a transfer from Arsenal. The veteran forward has been a handy player for the Blues, chipping in with vital goals on a consistent basis. So far this term, Giroud has racked up a tally of 11 goals from 31 matches in all competitions, scoring some important goals.
At the end of the season though, it was believed that Giroud would be on his way out, with his contract expiring. However, the Blues made a major U-turn by extending his contract by another year. His new deal would have kept him at the club for another season.
However, it looks like Giroud will not be extending his stay at Chelsea as he has agreed to join AC Milan. The veteran striker will earn around £3m per season and the deal will be for two years. Milan have not yet agreed on a fee with Chelsea. Giroud is hoping that the club can sanction a free transfer for him.
At this point, it seems like extending Giroud’s stay at the club could be to get some sort of transfer fee for the player. It’s not that he is an indispensable asset to the side. However, Chelsea will now have to go after another striker in the transfer window just to make sure they are not short on numbers.
