According to Express, Thibaut Courtois has aimed a dig at former club Chelsea ahead of the second leg. He had dreams to win the Champions League with Real Madrid that have not been fulfilled to date.
Chelsea and Real Madrid will aim to finish what they started last week. The second leg of the tie is on Wednesday as the Blues hold a slim advantage due to away goals. Christian Pulisic’s opener was cancelled out by Karim Benzema’s equally spectacular goal.
Courtois was an important member of the Blues squad during his time in England, winning the Premier League and an FA Cup as well as the Carabao Cup. He was one of the best keepers in the league during that time.
However, he wanted to return to Madrid in 2018 and Chelsea had no choice but to sanction a cut-price sale because his contract was ending in 2019. Courtois had problems in his first season at the club but since then, he has made rapid strides to become one of the more solid glovemen in Spain.
Ahead of the second leg, the tall Belgian has aimed a dig at Chelsea.
“I have confidence in our qualities. We are lucky to be in the semi-finals and small details can change everything. Winning a trophy with Belgium and the Champions League with Real Madrid are two childhood dreams which I haven’t accomplished yet. I hope to be able to achieve it as soon as possible.”
Courtois produced some significant saves to deny the likes of Werner in the first leg. However, he was hapless in stopping Pulisic from doing the same. It will be the first time he returns to Stamford Bridge in over three seasons since leaving in 2018.
