A report by Mirror (h/t Express) states that Chelsea want to bring Brondby sensation, Mads Bayer, to their youth set-up but Brexit rules could prevent that from happening, at least for now.
The 15-year-old Bayer is likened to Kevin De Bruyne in his home country of Denmark. He cannot sign a professional contract yet and is still under a school contract with Brondby which lasts until 2023, a situation akin to Jude Bellingham last year.
According to current Brexit rules, English teams cannot sign foreign players under the age of 18. Even the number of transfers for players under the age of 21 is restricted to three each window.
That would give a major boost to other teams interest in Bayer. AC Milan, Juventus, and Inter Milan are believed to have already held talks with the Danish U-17 international over a potential transfer. (h/t The Express)
But Chelsea are looking to circumvent this rule and look for a way out. The club are considering sending Bayer to a feeder club outside England and then transferring him to Stamford Bridge later on.
And the report adds that Brondy are on board with selling the teenager as they realize that they cannot keep a hold of him for too long, with big clubs already lurking around.
15 is a very early age to draw any conclusions about how a player could turn out to be, but with the hype around him, it’s not a bad idea to go after the youngster.
Chelsea have a history of signing talented teenagers before sending them out on loan, with most of them never going on to settle at Stamford Bridge. But it remains to be seen if Chelsea even formalize their interest in the first place.
