According to news from Football.london, Matt Miazga wants to remain with Anderlecht instead of returning to Chelsea. The American defender is on loan at the Belgian club for this season and is scheduled to return to Chelsea after that.
Miazga joined Chelsea more than 5 years ago in January 2016. However, he has been out on repeated loan spells to various clubs like Vitesse Arnhem, Nantes and Reading.
Even after impressing in the championship last season, Chelsea sent him on loan to Anderlecht, who are managed by former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany.
The American has flourished under his guidance, already playing 26 games this term. With the player impressing so much, he has spoken about how he wishes to extend his stay at the club beyond this season.
“Ask me again later. I would like to be here, but such a decision depends on several parameters.”
Miazga will still have a year left on his Chelsea contract after this season, which means the Belgian club might just have to pay a fee for him. It is now known as to what Chelsea will decide for him once he returns.
Chelsea already have a decent contingent of defenders. Clearly, Miazga does not have a future at the club and a sale might just benefit all parties.
