According to transfer news from Mirror, Newcastle have become the latest club to register their interest in Chelsea outcast Tammy Abraham. The Magpies want to sign the striker next season. The interest from Newcastle only adds to the list of clubs waiting to sign Abraham – West Ham, Southampton and Aston Villa.
Tammy Abraham came off the bench in the dying minutes of the West Ham clash and it showed how far the academy graduate had fallen in the pecking order. It has become an all too familiar sight to see the academy graduate on the bench in recent weeks. It was his first appearance on the pitch in 2 months.
Abraham broke into the first-team last season under Frank Lampard and was a vital part of the side that finished fourth. However, the England international has slipped down the order after the arrival of Thomas Tuchel and Timo Werner. The likes of Werner, Kai Havertz and Olivier Giroud have been preferred ahead of the academy graduate.
Newcastle being dependent on Callum Wilson for their goals would be an understatement. The club may have strikers like Joelinton up their sleeve but the fact remains that they have turned to Wilson more often than not to get the goals. It’s not surprising that they have registered interest in the Chelsea striker.
Abraham is considering his future at the club and wants a £180,000-per-week deal. While those are rather tall demands from a player who is still mastering the craft, Newcastle might ponder on the same given he has a bright future in the game. He would no doubt add to the firepower at Newcastle and ease some of the pressure on Wilson.
