Ethan Ampadu tells Chelsea he needs regular football to fulfill dreams

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea loanee Ethan Ampadu has told the club that he needs to play regularly if he is to stay at the Bridge and achieve his dreams.

A product of the Exeter City youth academy, Ampadu joined Chelsea in the summer of 2017 and made his first-team debut in December that year under then-manager Antonio Conte.

However, he managed just 11 more appearances for the senior side and was largely on the bench or with the reserves. As a result, Ampadu was sent out on loan to RB Leipzig last season, although that did not quite work out as per plans.

This season, however, Ampadu has done well after joining Sheffield United on loan in the summer. Even though the Blades look set for relegation as they sit at the bottom of the pile, the 20-year-old versatile defender has been one of the few positives for the club.

With his loan spell soon coming to an end, Ampadu will be back at Chelsea before long. And the Wales international has outlined his plans and ambitions for the immediate future.

“I need to be playing regular football, but I hope every footballer thinks that. That’s your job and that’s what you want to do, that’s why you grow up having a dream. Where ever I am I want to be playing football.

“We will have to wait and see what happens. I have dreams myself, that’s to play for one club, so we will have to wait and see.”

The centre-back, who can play in defensive midfield as well, admitted that he is yet to speak to new Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel. He also added that he is currently focusing on seeing the season through with Sheffield United.

More Chelsea News:

Ampadu has featured 27 times for Sheffield United this term and has fared decently. But with Chelsea having plenty of options in defence already, it remains to be seen if the youngster is in the manager’s plans for the next season.
