According to Daily Star, Chelsea managed to earn £20m last season due to Eden Hazard. That was despite the winger spending more time in the physio’s room instead of playing for Real Madrid.
Hazard lit up Stamford Bridge during his 7-year stay at the club since he joined from Lille in 2012. And he got his dream move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 for an eye-watering £89m. But that has not worked out for him so far. The Belgian winger was troubled by a serious ankle injury in his first season and fitness issues have continued to haunt him this campaign as well.
Injuries have restricted him to just 15 appearances in all competitions this season. However, it seems that Eden Hazard’s attachment to Chelsea isn’t entirely gone, with the club profiting off his transfer last season despite him hardly featuring, let alone performing.
Chelsea went on to earn a neat £20m in add-ons that were built into his contract. The bonuses are believed to be due to Real Madrid winning La Liga and qualifying for this season’s Champions League. That is still a decent amount to get in this climate. The Blues could profit even further in case he goes on to win the Champions League with Real.
Hazard will face his former side for the first time as Chelsea take on Real Madrid tonight. The Blues fans will be hoping to catch a glimpse of their former talisman after his injury bouts this season. However, Chelsea will need to focus and make sure they come away with a good result.
