According to news from Mirror, Chelsea have been given a warning by Carlos Carvalhal ahead of their clash with Porto. The former Swansea manager gave some insight on Porto given his current Braga side knocked them out over two legs in the Portuguese Cup.
Chelsea dispatched Atletico Madrid with ease in the round of 16 while Porto managed to stun Juventus, holding them to a draw and winning the tie on away goals. Even after that, Porto were seen as the team to get in the quarter-final draw and Chelsea could count themselves lucky.
The now Braga boss Carlos Carvalhal spoke about how much of a threat Porto are and how they like to play the underdog role.
“I remember before Porto played Juventus, Gazzetta dello Sport did an interview with me and I said: ‘Juventus-Porto will be 50-50.’ The journalist repeated the question back to me as if to say: ‘Are you sure?!’ Yes, I am sure!
Chelsea must be careful because if you ask me about the percentage then I will tell you again: ‘it will be 50-50.’ Do not underestimate them.”
He added that Porto play as a unit and it is hard to break them down. He knew about them because he spent time there as a player. He insisted that they are stronger as a unit and they enjoy the ‘feeling of everyone against them’.
Carvalhal also praised the character of Porto boss Sergio Conceicao, who understands the soul of the club.
Chelsea will have their work cut out for them tomorrow as they play the first leg. They boast of solid names like Pepe, Jesus Corona, and Moussa Marega.
By no means can Chelsea afford another setback after the one at the weekend. This could actually be our best chance of Champions League football next season.
