According to news from Birmingham Live, Thomas Tuchel has asked Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham to not focus on team selections. The uncertainty around the player’s future has led to speculation that he could make a move to Aston Villa.
Abraham broke into the first-team last season under Frank Lampard and was a vital part of the side that finished fourth. With a transfer ban last season, Abraham made full use of the opportunities handed to him and went on to score 15 goals.
However, the England international has slipped down the order after the arrival of Thomas Tuchel and Timo Werner. The likes of Werner, Kai Havertz and Olivier Giroud have been preferred ahead of the academy graduate.
However, Tuchel has revealed he had talks and reassured the lanky forward.
“Of course, he needs to be fit, that’s correct. Then to take it step by step, through good training performances and to fight his way back. The way back is maybe for him to be a substitute and to be hungry and full of quality in training.
These are the next steps, but now is not the moment to worry about the first XI, as he has been out for many games, unfortunately too many games.”
Villa, of course, are no strangers to Tammy Abraham. The Chelsea academy graduate spent the 2018-19 season at Villa Park and propelled them to the Premier League with his goal-scoring exploits.
It was that season at Villa that pushed him into the fray for a starting spot at Chelsea for the following season.
They still remain keen to bring in Abraham next season, with the coaching staff being admirers of the striker. Tammy is currently out with an ankle injury that has not improved much.
He has been out of the side since the Southampton game. Chelsea will be hoping he can recover during this two-week break.
