Edouard Mendy willing to fight for the Chelsea number one spot

Speaking to the official website, Chelsea shot-stopper Edouard Mendy has promised to keep competing for the starting role. Mendy has the likes of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero as competition for his spot in the team as the first-choice goalkeeper.

Signed this season, Mendy has quickly become a fan favorite, establishing himself as the undisputed number one under the previous manager Frank Lampard. Even after Thomas Tuchel took over as manager, Mendy retained his spot.

However, under Tuchel, Kepa has been given a second chance to stake his claim. He has been given some more game time compared to the earlier parts of the season. There is also the veteran Willy Caballero who comes with bags of winning experience.

On being asked about the competition with Kepa and Caballero, Mendy said that he will always keep fighting for the starting spot.

“I fight with Kepa but with Willy as well. The coach has said that he needs three strong goalkeepers. We need to be ready and we have to show it to start on the pitch.”

The Senegalese keeper spoke on the coming games for Chelsea citing the Manchester United game to be a tough one, given how they played in the reverse fixture. However, with this one at home, Mendy wants the team to show that they want to win.
