Chelsea, on the club’s official website, have confirmed that full-back Baba Rahman has completed his loan transfer to PAOK this month. The move comes as Rahman seeks more playing time after recovering from an injury.
Rahman did not make a single appearance for the senior team this season. He, however, made 3 appearances for the U-23 side. It looked like he was not in Frank Lampard’s plans at the start of the season.
The Ghanaian left-back was omitted from the club’s Premier League squad at the start of this campaign. He joined the Blues in the summer of 2015 from German side Augsburg.
He was a regular feature in the team during his first season at the club. Rahman made 23 appearances for the senior team in the 2015/16 season. (h/t Chelsea website)
Since then, however, he has failed to cement his place in the Chelsea team. His time at the Blues is defined by a number of loan spells. In fact, the move to PAOK is the 4th team he has joined while being on Chelsea’s books.
He had earlier joined German club Schalke 04 (twice), French team Stade de Reims, and Spanish side RCD Mallorca on loan. He returned to Stamford Bridge last summer but wasn’t part of the first-team this season.
In all honesty, it was going to be very difficult for the former Asante Kotoko man. The club has the likes of Ben Chilwell, Emerson Palmieri, and Marcos Alonso playing at left-back.
Rahman would be hoping that he can impress new boss Thomas Tuchel by the time the defender returns to Chelsea in the summer. PAOK are currently 4th in the Greek league, just 3 points off 2nd spot with a game still in hand.
