Manuel Neuer and Rio Ferdinand lavish praise on Chelsea star Edouard Mendy

According to The Daily Star, Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has got himself two admirers in Manuel Neuer and Rio Ferdinand.

The Senegalese international has been a breath of fresh air since he joined the club this summer. A relatively low key signing in comparison to our other acquisitions, Mendy has proven himself to be a shrewd investment.

Displacing the world’s most expensive keeper is no mean feat. However, Mendy is now fully established as Chelsea’s first-choice shot-stopper.

Edouard Mendy has been spectacular for Chelsea

His impact at Stamford Bridge has not gone unnoticed. Speaking to French publication L’Equipe (h/t The Daily Star), Bayern Munich star Neuer used Mendy as an example of the excellent goalkeepers playing the game today.

Having played only in France so far, Mendy’s name is unlikely to have featured on many fans’ wishlist heading into the season. The fact that he could adapt to a new country and league with minimum fuss is noteworthy.

“He is a player that we only saw in Ligue 1, who joined a big club and has immediately been successful.”

Similarly speaking to BT Sport (h/t The Daily Star), Ferdinand too was equally impressed by the 28-year-old goalkeeper.

He remarked about the player’s ability to step up when needed. Mendy also praised for making use of his physical ability to the best extent.

“He is a huge size, a great specimen, but the guy makes saves. He makes important saves at important times.”

Ferdinand also remarked upon Mendy’s ability to shrug off mistakes and keep up his performance levels.
