Speaking to BT Sport (h/t The Express), Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has hit back at Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp for tagging Chelsea as title favourites.
The German has suggested last week that the Blues were best placed to launch an assault on the Premier League summit.
If it was his choice of mindgames, Klopp appears to have won the first round. Chelsea saw their unbeaten run come to an end yesterday night on Merseyside at Goodison Park.
The loss saw us miss out on the opportunity to move up to first spot, albiet temporarily. Speaking after the game, Lampard disagreed with Klopp’s assessment of his team and believes Chelsea are far from the finished product.
“I keep reading how we had the strongest squad in the league. I don’t understand it.”
Lampard attempted to turn the tables by saying there are teams in the league with players who scored 30 plus goals and have won the Champions League.
It would appear to be a discreet way to hit back at Liverpool who won the prestigious competition in 2019.
“Teams around us have won titles and have strikers who score 30 goals every year, players who have won the Champions League.”
It is debatable if we deserved to lose at Goodison Park. Chelsea created enough chances and even hit the post twice.
Unfortunately, it was not our day and we will need to get back to winning ways against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday.
Summer signing Edouard Mendy was the culprit on the night as he gave away a penalty to Everton.
Despite much promise, we are still a work in progress. There is still some way to go become we turn into a lean and mean winning machine.
