According to The Mirror, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has praised young striker Tammy Abraham.
The 23-year-old scored twice last Monday as the Blues snapped a two-game losing streak in the Premier League. The win ensured we stayed within touching distance of league leaders Liverpool.
“I’m very happy with him.”
The brace saw Abraham become the second-youngest Chelsea player to score 20 Premier League goals. Only Eden Hazard has beaten the striker to the target.
With 20 goals in just 47 games, Abraham has enjoyed a good start to his top-flight career. So far, he has scored five this season and looks to be hitting form at just the right time.
“I’m very pleased with his form, and Tammy offers a lot.”
Despite his numbers, Lampard does not want Abraham to rest on his laurels. He has challenged the striker to keep developing and get even better.
“Last season was a great, real breakthrough season for him in terms of Premier League and being Chelsea’s number nine, and there’s more work he can do.”
Chelsea take on Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend. The Gunners are in free fall at the moment and are there for the taking.
The game also presents Timo Werner with an opportunity to end his nine-game goal drought.
The fact that Abraham is able to start centrally and push Werner out to the left shows the faith Lampard has in his ability.
The youngster has so far impressed more often than not. It now remains to be seen how he responds to Lampard’s challenge.
