Olivier Giroud considering Chelsea future ahead of January window

As reported by Football.london, veteran Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is considering a transfer away from Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.

The 34-year-old has been with the Blues since January 2018, having arrived from our London rivals Arsenal. During his time at the club, Giroud has been quite an asset, even though he hasn’t always been a regular starter.

So far in his career at the Bridge, Giroud has featured 94 times for Chelsea, scoring 29 goals and assisting 14 more. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Olivier Giroud has hardly played this season for Chelsea

However, the Frenchman has fallen well down the pecking order this season, following the arrival of Timo Werner in the summer.

Giroud is behind the new arrival and Tammy Abraham in the order of preference, which has meant he has played just 33 minutes of league football this season.

And with the European Championships coming up in the summer next year, Giroud is concerned about his spot in the France squad, which has led to him consider a move away from Chelsea once the January transfer window opens. (h/t Football.london)

Giroud was in a similar sort of situation earlier this year as well. Having not been a regular in Frank Lampard’s first season at the club, the 34-year-old was considering a January exit. (h/t Football.london)

However, Chelsea’s inability to secure a replacement and Abraham’s poor form and injury meant he ended up staying and signed a new one-year deal. (h/t Football.london)

Inter Milan, who were linked to him back in January this year, are once again showing an interest. And while he will not be the first-choice there either, Giroud is open to a switch to Italy. (h/t Football.london)

Much like earlier this year, Chelsea are likely to hold their stance that the veteran forward can leave if a replacement is secured. So, it will be interesting to see whether the Frenchman stays or leaves come the January window.
