Chelsea manager Frank Lampard questions the need for early kick-offs

According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has called for early Saturday kickoffs to be scrapped.

The Blues kick off early this weekend against Newcastle United in our first game after the international break. With the players still arriving at the club, Lampard has had scant time to prepare his charges.

Understandably, the boss is livid at the situation and has called for changes to be made when necessary.

“That 12.30pm slot, how often does it need to be there.”

He believes such a scenario puts a dampener into a team’s optimal preparation going into the game. But he admits Chelsea will aim to be at their best despite the difficulties faced by him and his players.

“I want us to play to our best but it is very difficult circumstances.”

The lack of a pre-season combined with a heavy schedule has put players at the risk of injury. This was visible as well, with a number of Liverpool players picking up knocks while on national team duty.

Chelsea star Christian Pulisic has injured his hamstring again

Thankfully, the situation is not as dire for us. But the schedule hardly affords us breathing space to permit the players to recover.

As a player who hung up his boots recently, Lampard is well aware of the effect such a taxing schedule can have on a player. Things, as they stand, are not enough and changes need to be made.

“Change the time, it is not that difficult. We have to continue to look at the best way to change it.”

Player welfare is at the top of Lampard’s concerns

Lampard once again touched upon the scrapping of the five substitute rule as well. The Blues boss is primarily concerned about player welfare and has called for measures to be taken to safeguard the well-being of the stars playing the game.

Chelsea face Newcastle United this weekend. A win can take us to the top of the table, even if it may be temporary.
